40TH-DAY MEMORIAL FOR KATHERINE HUCULAK HELD AT ST NICHOLAS CHURCH, WINNIPEG

The Ukrainian Catholic Parish of St. Nicholas in Winnipeg was the place where a "40th-Day" memorial Divine Liturgy was offered for the repose of the soul of the servant of God, Katherine Huculak, the late mother of the Archbishop of Winnipeg, His Grace Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak. The late Katherine reposed in the Lord on October 30th and her funeral was held in Vernon, BC a month ago.

Even though being the Feast of the Immaculate Conception by St. Anne and most parishes had scheduled liturgical services, many clergy that could attended the special evening at St. Nicholas parish, which is under the pastoral care of the Basilian Fathers. Over two dozen clergy, not only from Winnipeg, but from the around the Archeparchy, joined Metropolitan Lawrence and lay-faithful from various parishes for the Divine Liturgy, panakhyda and a reception in the parish hall.

During the homily, Metropolitan Lawrence shared several details about the life of his late mother. The two most outstanding facts about his mother, however, were her love for her family and her love for the Church. Wherever life took her with her military husband and family - Vancouver, Yorkton, Brandon, Wynyard, Vernon - church life and family life were always at the heart. His Grace thought it very fitting that the traditional 40th Day memorial services would take place on this date - one of his mother's beloved Marian Feasts.

Following the Panahkyda service, everyone was invited to the hall below the church for a light reception.

У блаженному успінні вічний упокій подай, Господи, повсякчас поминаній рабі Твоїй Катерині і вчини їй вічную пам'ять
