A Busy Day in the Parish Life

Wednesday, January 25th was quite busy day in the parish life. After the Divine Liturgy at St. Mary's Church in Russell, parish priest Fr. Mykhaylo Khomitskyy went to visit sick parishioners at homes, P.C.H. and hospital. The culmination of these visits is of course, the Holy Eucharist, that everyone can partake physically in the most precious Body and Blood of our Savior and to feel that they are not alone in this world. Also it is a good chance to talk, to pass a parish bulletin, holy water, calendar...

In the afternoon the residents of the Personal Care Home in Rossburn gathered at the Annual Memorial Service. Fifteen residents reposed in the Lord since 2016. Pastor Russ Andrew from the Rossburn Community Church shared the Gospel reading and reflection. Fr. Khomitskyy with Ukrainian Catholic Choir celebrated the memorial Service Panakhyda for deceased residents and shared a message.

In the evening of that day St. Mary's parishioners with priest joined the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in the World. This event was held in Grace Lutheran Church in Russell. Five denominations with their pastors participated: Rev. Norberto Morton from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church,Rev. Mykhaylo Khomitskyy from Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rev. Janet Kostyna from Grace Lutheran Church, Rev. Dr. Kevin Goodrich from Christ Anglican Church and Rev. David Howell from United Church. The theme was "Reconciliation - the Love of Christ compels us". At the end of the service everyone lit the candle where Fr. Mykhaylo said: "Receive the Light of Christ and carry it into the dark places of our world! Be ministers of reconciliation! Be ambassadors for Christ!" and he gave a blessing. After service everyone was invited to the hall for coffee and donuts.
