GREAT NEWS! THE CATECHISM HAS BEEN PUBLISHED!

July 5, 2016

It was with no little excitement that the news was received at the Chancery office from the printing house that they were ready to deliver the first tranche of 1000 copies of the English edition of the Catechism of the Ukrainian Catholic Church – Christ Our Pascha! Yes, after a ‘bit of a wait’, volumes of the new catechism are being shipped to all the eparchies and throughout the Ukrainian Catholic Church where the English language version would be helpful to the faithful in fully appreciating the rich contents of the text. Although plans have been discussed to have this historic book translated and published in various languages, so far it has been issued only in Portuguese, Russian and English – besides the original Ukrainian.

The new catechism will be distributed first to the clergy and those involved with catechetical ministry within the Archeparchy. As soon as possible, it will be made available to all the Faithful , who will surely want copies for their families and for personal study. It is presumed that Christ Our Pascha will already serve as a reference resource for parish catechism programs starting this fall. Eventually, comprehensive programs for all grades and circumstances will be developed from this fundamental text as is now occurring in Ukraine.

Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak and Fr. Yaroslav Buduykevych unpack the first box of the shipment.

The catechism book consists of some 347 pages plus 64 full colour illustrations. The now popular method of ‘numbered paragraphs’ used throughout the catechism will make it easier to quote and make reference to the text. At the close of the book there are some 28 pages of good index references to help the reader more quickly pinpoint a particular subject. There is even an index of citations from the Bible, from Church documents or from the Fathers of the Church that were used in the Catechism. These indices are in addition to the numerous footnotes provided throughout the volume. Information about the cost and distribution of the Catechism will be forthcoming in the very near future.

Very Rev. Michael Kwiatkowski, Chancellor
