New Bishop-Elect Michael Smolinski, CSsR

On November 30, 2023, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Michael Smolinski, CSsR, as the bishop of the Eparchy of Saskatoon. Date and place of his consecration will be announced later.Many happy and blessed years to Bishop-Elect Michael!

New Bishop-Elect Michael Smolinski, CSsR, was born on September 10, 1972 in Saskatoon, Canada.

Michael Smolinski entered the novitiate of the Community of the Most Holy Redeemer (CSsR) on September 1, 1997, and made final vows on August 15, 2002. He studied at the University of Saskatchewan, where he received a Bachelor of Education, as well as a Master of Divinity from St. Michael's University in Toronto. He also took some courses in Eastern Christian Studies at the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi Institute at St. Paul's University in Ottawa.

Michael was ordained to priesthood on July 5, 2003 in the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Saskatoon by bishop Mykhailo Vivchar of the Saskatoon Eparchy. Fr. Michael dedicated his life to services at Welcome Home in Winnipeg between 2005 and 2015. In the mean time he became extraordinary member of the Provincial Council of Redemptorists Fathers. From 2015 till 2019, he was a pastor of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul parish in Saskatoon. On August 1, 2019, he became provincial superior of the Redemptorist Community in Canada.
