UPCOMING EVENTS Upon the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our Ukrainian Catholic Metropolia of Canada, at the invitation of the Ukrainian Catholic Hierarchy in Canada, Rev. Jaroslaw Dybka, CSsR, prepared a series of Jubilee homilies to guide us in this time of spiritual renewal. The Divine Eucharist or “communion” signifies the perfect unity of the people of God and serves to edify the Body of Christ, namely the Church. Thus the third homily (to be preached February 25, the First Sunday of Great Lent) recalls that “We are One in Christ,” that is, the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada is one, united in Christ as one Metropolia. Pastors are kindly requested to forward to the Chancery Office the following documents for each parish or mission in their pastoral care:
On the occasion of the World Day of the Sick, which will take place on February 11, the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) has published a new leaflet entitled “Living, Suffering and Dying…what for?” This reflection responds to the ongoing debate in Canadian society about the legalization of euthanasia and assisted suicide. The new publication walks the reader through a powerful contemplation of one of life’s greatest mysteries: pain and suffering. It reveals their profound Christian meaning and instils a renewed sense of hope, courage and peace. Go www.cccb.ca/site/index.php?lang=eng. The Winnipeg Protopresbyterate (Deanery) will be hosting a six week Marriage Preparation Course during Great Lent (February 21 to March 28) at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church. All pastors are invited to use this program for their preparation needs. Please use the registration and program forms as required. If you wish more information please contact Fr. Mark Gnutel 453-4653. National Volunteer Week takes place April 15-21. This week is a special time set aside to thank and honour the people who donate their time and energy. It is also a time to raise awareness of the vital contribution volunteers make to our churches, communities and to society as a whole. The Archeparchy of Winnipeg expresses its sincere gratitude to those who volunteer in many capacities, especially in sharing in the mission of the Church to bring the good news to the people of God. Pope Benedict XVI's Message for the World Day of Social Communications, which this year is due to be celebrated on May 20, focuses on the theme: "Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education." The 2007 Annual Cooks Creek Pilgrimage will take place August 17-19. 2007 Presbyteral Council/Consultors Meetings (tentative dates): April 16, June 4, September 10, and November 5. 2007 Clergy Conferences (tentative dates): April 17, June 5 (Tri-Archeparchial Clergy Assembly – Archeparchy of Winnipeg, Archdiocese of Saint Boniface, Archdiocese of Winnipeg – with Cardinal Marc Ouellet, Quebec City, who will present on the “Eucharist”), September 13, and November 6. The Archeparchy of Winnipeg will honour Metropolitan Lawrence on the occasion of his 10th anniversary of episcopal ordination with a Moleben and Reception at 7:00 pm, April 17, at Saint Joseph Parish, Winnipeg. 2007 Clergy Retreat (tentative dates): September 10-13.
ANNOUNCEMENTS In the press release, the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) reacts to the decision rendered on January 2, 2007 by the Court of Appeals of Ontario, which recognized three legal parents for one child. This year’s Archeparchy of Winnipeg’s Share Lent collection will once again be directed towards Aid to the Church in Ukraine (Pomich Ukraini) Fund, specifically to support the Emmaus Centre of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Lviv, in their ministry of providing support for persons with intellectual disabilities. This program funds daily workshop programs which allow persons with intellectual disabilities to discover their innate worth, their unique beauty, to grow and express themselves creatively. The Emmaus Centre is under the direction of Zenia Kushpeta, a Canadian, who for the past 14 years has been living in Lviv as a volunteer of L’Arche, co-initiating five projects benefiting persons with disabilities in Ukraine. The Lenten collection is a project of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association in Canada (www.cnewa.org). Monies collected should be returned to the Chancery Office by Flowery (Palm) Sunday, April 1. Metropolitan Lawrence accepted the resignation of Rt. Rev. Mitrat Vladimir Olach as Pastor of Christ the King Parish, Winnipeg. It was presented in accord with canon 297, §2 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. At the same time, His Grace appointed Rev. Bohdan Borowec as Administrator of said parish.
CELEBRATING the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the Ukrainian Catholic Metropolia in Canada….
Jubilee Prayer (1956-2006) Lord, Jesus Christ, as we celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Ukrainian Catholic Metropolia of Canada, we give thanks for your loving kindness and the abundant graces received during the span of fifty years. We also humbly ask for the grace of an ever deeper realization of your loving presence; that we are all children of one Heavenly Father. Again and again, we pray for the grace of perseverance in faith; that we may all be united in your loving and compassionate heart, and that with renewed enthusiasm, love and compassion, we might continue the work of salvation for the glory of our Heavenly Father. May your holy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven! Amen. |
