UPCOMING EVENTS On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Lviv Pseudo-Council (Sobor), which took place March 8-10, 1946, His Beatitude Lubomyr issued the attached letter. [PDF - Ukr|Eng] The next meeting of the Presbyteral Council/College of Consultors will take place at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 13 at the Chancery Office. Future scheduled meetings are May 3 (10th anniversary of the passing of Metropolitan Maxim Hermaniuk), June 5, September 25, and November 20. The next Clergy Conference will take place in the context of a Tri-Archeparchial Clergy Assembly (Archeparchy of Winnipeg, Archdiocese of Saint Boniface, Archdiocese of Winnipeg) on Tuesday, March 14, from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm at Saint Boniface Cathedral, 190, avenue de la Cathédrale. Archbishop James Weisgerber will present on the Report of the Special Taskforce for the Review of “From Pain to Hope” of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The report, which emphasizes a commitment to making the protection of children a priority, is available at www.cccb.ca or by contacting the Chancery Office. Future scheduled clergy conferences are May 4, June 8, September 26, and November 21. The Board of Directors of The Catholic Foundation of Manitoba has named the Knights of Columbus of Manitoba to be the Caritas Award recipient for 2006. They are being recognized for the works of charity they have provided to their parishes and communities during their 100 years of service in Manitoba. Most notable among their contributions have been their assistance to the sick and disabled, to youth activities, educational endeavors, and social welfare groups. The Knights of Columbus will be honoured at the 28th Annual Caritas Award Dinner on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. This week is a special time set aside to thank and honour the people who donate their time and energy. It is also a time to raise awareness of the vital contribution volunteers make to our churches, communities and to society as a whole. The Archeparchy of Winnipeg expresses its sincere gratitude to those who volunteer in many capacities, especially in sharing in the mission of the Church to bring the good news to the people of God. 2006 Clergy Retreat: June 5-8, Villa Maria, Winnipeg, Retreat Master Most Rev. Lawrence Huculak (note change). With the sale of Villa Maria, the annual clergy retreat has been moved from September to June. The Central Canada 2006 Franklin Graham Festival, in cooperation with the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, will take place October 20-22 in Winnipeg. This year’s Archeparchy of Winnipeg’s Share Lent collection will be directed towards Aid to the Church in Ukraine (Pomich Ukraini) Fund, specifically to support the Emmaus Centre of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Lviv, in their ministry of providing support for persons with intellectual disabilities. This program funds daily workshop programs which allow persons with intellectual disabilities to discover their innate worth, their unique beauty, to grow and express themselves creatively. The Emmaus Centre is under the direction of Zenia Kushpeta, a Canadian, who for the past 14 years has been living in Lviv as a volunteer of L’Arche, co-initiating five projects benefiting persons with disabilities in Ukraine. Monies collected should be returned to the Chancery Office by Flowery (Palm) Sunday, April 9. See attached Made public was the Message of the Holy Father to the Youth of the World on the Occasion of the 21st World Youth Day 2006. The theme of the gathering is “Your word is a lamp to my feed and a light to my path.”
NECROLOGY Bishop Ivan Choma, Titular Bishop of Patara, Rector of the Minor Basilica of Saint Sofia in Rome, and emeritus Procurator of the Major Archbishop to the Holy See, reposed in the Lord on February 3. Bishop Ivan was born in Khyriv (Ukraine today the Eparchy of Sambir-Drohobych) on November 27, 1923; ordained to the priesthood in Rome on June 29, 1949; and was consecrated bishop on April 2, 1977. |
