ANNOUNCEMENTS At the request of His Grace, Metropolitan Michael, Rt. Rev. Canon Vladimir Olach, has been elevated to the dignity of Mitred Archpriest by His Beatitude Lubomyr. Na mnohiji lita! His Grace has appointed Rev. Emil Kardasinec as Archeparchial Vocation Director. At the same time, the Archeparchy of Winnipeg extends its appreciation to Rev. Mark Gnutel, who served in this capacity with the Redemptorist Fathers and the Archeparchy for the past ten years. On September 6, 2004, His Beatitude Lubomyr issued a Pastoral Letter on the Patriarchate. An English translation and the Ukrainian original texts will appear in the October 10th and 24th issues of Progress, respectively. In its annual message on the family, the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) invites youth, parents, pastors and educators to rediscover the exceptional good news of the Christian family as the first school of life and faith. The message entitled “The Christian Family: Good News for the World” may be found on the CCCB website at: http://www.cccb.ca/MediaReleases.htm?CD=422&ID=1562. COLF was jointly founded by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Knights of Columbus to promote respect for human life and dignity and the essential role of the family. How can parishes better participate in the Church’s mission of healing? In response, the Catholic Health Association of Manitoba has prepared a special handout on “The Role of Parishes in the Healing Ministry,” for distribution to our parishioners. The document is attached. The Interfaith Health Care Association of Manitoba has successfully petitioned the Minister of Health and the Provincial Government’s PHIA Review Committee to consider changes to the Privacy Act, in particular, to change the definition of “health” to include not only mind and body, but spirit as well. In effect, the amendments should make it easier for chaplains and community clergy to access information about patients in health care facilities. The Archeparchy of Winnipeg currently has six candidates preparing themselves for priestly ordination. They are: Deacon Harry Chuckry, Edward Evanko, Subdeacon Patrick Firman, Paul Kozak, Deacon Douglas LeClair, Xenios Marckx, and Deacon Greg Zubacz. A short biography on each will appear in an upcoming issue of Progress. Please continue to pray for vocations. The 20th World Youth Day will take place August 16-21, 2005 in Cologne, Germany. The theme for WYD 2005 is “We have come to worship him” (Mt. 2:2). The Holy Father has chosen this theme in order to link the celebration of WYD 2005 with the devotion of the Magi that is popular in Cologne and the long tradition of pilgrimage to its famous cathedral. Please encourage our young people 18 years old and older to plan on attending WYD 2005. For further information, contact Tamara Lisowski, Archeparchial Youth Coordinator, at (204) 338-7801 or youth@archeparchy.ca; or visit the official WYD 2005 website at www.wyd2005.org; or read the CCCB information bulletin at http://www.cccb.ca/Files/WYD2005_Newsletter2004-09.html. On January 1, 2005, the Archeparchy of Winnipeg will introduce an Archeparchial Clergy Pension and revise its Clergy Remuneration Schedule as per attachment.
